OFF ‘N RUNNING
The Kiwanis Club of Hillsborough had a very productive first half of 2019. Members were busy doing their best to fulfill the organization’s creed: “Help change the world one child and one community at a time.” Following are a few of our proudest accomplishments:
*Hundreds of Orange County students were recognized for being Terrific Kids.
*The club made numerous donations to other organizations in Orange County that support children and families.
*We helped support Key Club programs at both high schools.
*Three Key Club students received a $1,000 scholarship.
*Meals were provided at the Ronald McDonald House in Durham.
*Members helped with test proctoring at several schools.
*We were ‘Reading Buddies’ at the elementary school level.
*The club organized the contest, “Night at the Bookstore.” $2500 was raised to support students with visual issues (eye glasses, doctor appointments).
*We provided and served breakfast to teachers at a workshop at Gravelly Hill Middle School.
*Over 600 students and parents received copies of our booklet, “Turning Rituals into Rewards.”
*I presented over twenty sessions to students at numerous schools on the benefits of reading, writing, and exercise.
*Members volunteered at the Got Grit? 5k.
*We’ve kept people updated via Facebook.
Our club will continue to work hard in the second half of the year. One other positive note is that our membership has almost doubled in the past year.
